Sub-project: Ceremonies - Weddings
In the ceremonies sub-project we start with humanist weddings. Later we will deal with other humanist ceremonies; naming ceremonies, coming of age-ceremonies, funerals and more.
Vision for the sub-project on humanist weddings:
- To make humanist weddings in Europe available to everyone, regardless of where they live and where they want to marry

What is happening in 2025:
- 28.1.25: Most partners have now signed the European Humanist Wedding Standard. The working group will proceed with negotiating an accreditation scheme to accredit our partner’s wedding services according to this standard.
- End of January: A new and refined version of the Humanist wedding portal is in the making. It will hopefully be launched during spring 2025 in cooperation with our partners.
What happened in 2024:
- We have negotiated a joint framework and requirements for humanist weddings. This will be distributed to the partners for signature in December 24, and then published here. After that we will agree on an accreditation protocol and establish an accreditation board that will start accrediting the partner’s wedding services hopefully starting spring 2025.
- We have made a prototype European humanist online wedding portal for everyone. It will be launched in the first part of 2025.
- During 2024 we have had several digital meetings in the working group (below), and one in-person seminar in Antwerp, Belgium, on 26 and 17 October. This will continue in 2025. A new in-person working group seminar will be held in September 2025. More details to be announced.
